The Challenge
This client had a deep appreciation for Japanese-inspired interiors, drawn to their simplicity, natural textures, and calm atmosphere. The goal was to bring this aesthetic into their home while ensuring the space remained practical and ready for everyday living.
One of the key functional requirements was the need for clear separation in the kitchen area, particularly for privacy during cooking. There was also a store room with a visible door that disrupted the visual flow of the space, something the client wanted to conceal.
On top of that, the client often hosts guests and wanted to make sure there was ample seating available for casual gatherings or family visits. Lastly, the living area lacked dedicated storage, making it harder to keep things organised and clutter-free.
Our Solution
To align with the client’s taste, we proposed a Japandi concept, a perfect fusion of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian functionality. This allowed us to create a serene yet highly practical living space that feels light, natural, and inviting.
To address the privacy issue in the kitchen, we installed a glass partition at the kitchen entrance, which provides separation while still allowing light to flow through. We also transformed the store room door into a hidden feature, integrating it seamlessly into the wall design so it disappears from plain sight.
For seating, beyond the main sofa and dining set, we added a long bench along the staircase wall, a clever and stylish solution that offers additional seating without cluttering the space. This ensures the home is always guest-ready.
In the bedroom, we added a dedicated display cabinet to house the client’s personal collection of perfumes and rare items, a thoughtful touch that not only highlights their personality but also elevates the space with a curated feel.
We also incorporated extra storage within the TV panel, giving the client an easy way to tidy up the living area and keep daily essentials out of sight.
The final outcome is a beautifully balanced home that reflects Japanese design philosophy while accommodating the client’s lifestyle with smart, thoughtful solutions.
