The Challenge
For this newly purchased home, the client found that the original layout by the developer didn’t meet their lifestyle needs or aesthetic preferences. They felt that the existing plan lacked flow and functionality, especially for how they envisioned using the ground floor space. With a limited renovation budget, the client decided to focus only on designing the ground floor first, prioritising key areas that would have the biggest impact. One of their must-haves was a dedicated coffee corner, a small but meaningful feature that reflects their daily routine.
They also needed a spacious and practical kitchen storage system to handle their household needs efficiently. In terms of visuals, they requested a colour palette that strikes a balance, nothing too bright, but also avoiding an overly dark or heavy atmosphere.
Our Solution
At RHM Design, we started by reworking the entire ground floor layout to better match the client’s lifestyle and preferences. Every zone was reimagined with intention, creating a more open, functional, and visually connected space.
To align with the client’s budget, we proposed designing only the ground floor for now, ensuring that every detail serves both immediate use and long-term potential as they plan for future phases. For the coffee area, we created a dedicated coffee nook beside the kitchen, using a seamless tabletop extension that connects beautifully into the main kitchen counter, creating visual continuity and convenience.
In the kitchen, we designed a larger and more efficient storage system, integrating cabinets optimising every inch of available space. To tie the entire space together, we applied a balanced colour scheme, blending both light and dark tones to create a sense of harmony, warmth, and modern appeal without feeling too bold or too soft.
The result is a ground floor that feels tailored, intentional, and ready to grow with the client’s evolving needs, starting strong with the foundation of thoughtful design.
