The Challenge
The client came to us with a clear vision for their F&B space but faced several design challenges. The ceiling was unusually high, which made the space feel too vast and disconnected from the warm, intimate atmosphere they wanted to create.
Since the restaurant was serving traditional Malay cuisine, it was important that the interior concept reflected cultural richness while still feeling modern and approachable. They also wanted to cater to a variety of customer needs, specifically by offering private dining options for guests who value privacy, as well as a comfortable area for walk-ins who might not be there to dine, but simply to enjoy a drink or relax.
Our Solution
To address these needs, we began by visually lowering the ceiling using matte black paint, a clever technique that brings a cozier, more grounded feel to the space without structural changes.
For the overall concept, we embraced a traditional design style inspired by Malay heritage, integrating natural textures, wood elements, and soft, earthy tones that complement the food being served. We proposed the addition of three private dining rooms with window views, perfect for hosting VIP guests or encouraging upsells during special bookings.
To diversify the space further, we also created a bar-only area for casual patrons who might just want to enjoy a drink or socialize without committing to a full meal.
The final result is a thoughtful, multi-functional dining environment that not only aligns with the brand’s culinary identity but also enhances customer experience through smart zoning and culturally grounded design.
